CLARK FREEPORT – An official of a wakeboarding association urged the public, most notably young people, to patronize water sports, particularly wakeboarding.
In the recent media forum KapiHann hosted by the Pampanga Press Club in cooperation with the Swissotel Clark and Hann Resorts, Waterski Wakeboard Association of the Philippines Head Coach and Technical Director Carlo Dela Torre described wakeboarding as a “growing sport.”
“People in Pampanga, Angeles City and nearby provinces are lucky because we have a wakeboard facility in Angeles City and it is near Clark,” said Dela Torre, referring to the Decawake Clark Cable Park (DCPC) in Barangay Margot.
“We urge you to try the fun sport,” he added.
Dela Torre stressed that it’s not expensive to try wakeboarding . He said they charge P600 for two hours of training.
“The fee includes coaching, use of the facility and all the equipment. You don’t have to buy anything in order to play it,” he added.
Dela Torre said they train children as young as 4 years old.
“It’s safe,” he added.
Dela Torre also mentioned the potential for the Philippines to land medals in the Olympics, as it hauled medals in past SEA Games in 2019, where wakeboarding was held at Deca.
Filipino wakeboarders landed top spots in the 2019 SEA Games. Sanya Phonthip and Raphael Trinidad, bagged 1st and 2nd place, respectively (men’s) and Samantha Bermudez and Susana Shayne Sacramento, placed 2nd and 6th (women’s).
Dela Torre announced two upcoming events at the DCPC – the Philippine Cable Wake Nationals on September 27-28 this year, and the Asia Australia Oceania Cable Championships on January 25-27, 2025. (𝙋𝙖𝙢𝙥𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙖 𝙋𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝘾𝙡𝙪𝙗 𝙫𝙞𝙖 𝙅𝙤𝙚𝙮 𝙋𝙖𝙫𝙞𝙖)
