Senator Manuel “Lito” M. Lapid proudly inaugurated the newly completed P370 million municipal hall in Barangay Cangatba, a prominent addition to the landscape of Porac. The senator, a native son of the town, received an enthusiastic welcome from local residents at the sprawling new government facility situated on a three-hectare site generously donated by the family of the late Genaro M. Dimalanta, who served as Vice Mayor from 1960 to 1963.
During the ceremony, Mayor Myla B. Clarete expressed gratitude to Lapid for his pivotal role in securing the funding for the new municipal hall. “The municipality of Porac and its local government sincerely thank our esteemed Senator Lito Lapid for his dedication in providing the necessary funds for our new town hall. His concern for the Poraqueños is deeply appreciated and recognized,” Clarete stated.

Construction of the municipal hall commenced in January 2021, financed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH). Clarete noted that the relocation of the municipal seat from Barangay Poblacion to the new site was formalized through Municipal Ordinance No. 01, Series of 2025.
John Paul L. Martinez, acting municipal information officer and executive assistant to the mayor, revealed that the architectural design of the hall is inspired by the U.S. Library of Congress. He added that the three-hectare property is planned to become a comprehensive government center, with more administrative offices expected to follow.
As he seeks re-election for a fourth term in the upcoming May 12 polls, Lapid’s political journey is marked by a prior tenure as three-term governor of Pampanga from 1995 to 2004, and as Vice Governor from 1992 to 1995. He is recognized as a seasoned legislator, having championed key social legislation such as the Free Legal Assistance Act of 2010.
The senator’s current campaign marks a reunion with Governor Dennis G. Pineda and Vice Governor Lilia “Nanay” G. Pineda, breaking an 18-year political estrangement. In past elections, the Pineda family contested against the Lapids; however, this election cycle has ushered in a united front among prominent political families in Porac.
Former Councilor Michael “Mike” Tapang, who is running for mayor under the Kambilan party, emphasized the significance of this alliance. “Our long-held dream of genuine unity for Porac has come to fruition. The Lapid and Pineda families, along with former mayors, have come together to rescue our town from the POGO scam scandal,” Tapang remarked. “Our goal is to advance true development in Porac, restore the dignity of our constituents, and foster growth in business and education for every Poraqueño.”
Tapang’s slate includes Vincent Lusung for vice mayor, alongside councilor candidates Atty. Tet Buan, Bong Buan, Rito Buan, Max Bungque, Dexter David, Papa Duds David, Alfer Nacu, and Maynard Lapid, the senator’s youngest son. Dexter David is the son of the late Mayor Roy David.
