A Little Bit of History
Mr.Thian Boon Hua started the business in 1979 in a small stall in Chinatown, Singapore. The small food stall gained its popularity in serving chicken rice where in they decided to establish Boon Tong Kee’s first branch in Balestier Road in 1983. In the succeeding years they opened outlets in MacPherson Road, Whampoa West, River Valley Road, Cheong Chin Nam Road and East Coast Road.
With the current changes in the market and discriminating taste of the Singaporeans they decided to include “Zi Char” (home-style cooked food) and eateries in 1999.
Boon Toon Kee in the Philippines
In 2012, the restaurant franchise opened in the country. Thian Boon Hua entrusted the brand to the Rodriguez family. The Boon Toon Kee’s interiors in the Philippines are more upscale and elegant as compare to those in Singapore; a touch of class and simplicity is put into it. This Singaporean restaurant has branches now in SM Mall of Asia, Power Plant Mall, UP Town Center, and Tomas Morato.
The Dining Area
The dining area is decorated with simple yet elegant furniture with a good mix of earth colors and simple center pieces. It has a show kitchen in which you will have a glimpse on how the food is being prepared by the Executive Chef.
The Food
Singaporean Cuisine is known to be diverse since it a mixture of different cuisines in Asia such as Indian, Malaysian, Indonesian, Chinese and etc. I enjoyed the food at Boon Tong Kee because it has the best dishes that Singapore has to offer.
Deep Fried Eggplant with Pork Floss
The dish might sound so ordinary but I tell you, it’s underrated! Love the perfectly fried eggplants coated with slightly tasty batter topped with pork floss which adds to the overall taste of the dish. A simple yet delicious appetizer to start the meal.
Century Egg in Sweet and Sour Sauce
Another great appetizer, the slightly tangy and salty century egg blend well with the sweet and sour sauce with the chunky pineapple bits.
Baked Pork Bun
A very fluffy bun with tasty pork filling. Perfect snack if you want to try something different aside from the all time favorite siopao.
Pork Siomai
Hakaw
Poached Chinese Spinach with Assorted Eggs
Tasty soup loaded with spinach and eggs, this is a complete meal actually, I love this dish for I love eggs which are good source of protein; overall, a healthy and filling dish.
Cream Cheese Chicken with Bun
The chicken fingers are properly fried, crunchy but not too dry. The sauce give the dish a certain kick for it’s creamy, spicy and a little bit sour.
Wanton Mee Noodle
Crispy Cereal Prawns
One of the bestsellers of the restaurant, this dish is good. Love the battling sweet and spicy flavor of the floss perfectly matched with the tasty giant prawns.
Beef Tenderloin in Zhen Jiang Sauce
The beef is so tender with a very distinct sweet sauce imported from Singapore; perfect with chicken rice.
Signature Boiled Chicken
A signature dish of the restaurant, it’s very tender, juicy and has a light soy sauce flavor. It’s one healthy dish because the chicken meat is lean, perfect for those who are health conscious like me. Love the simplicity of this dish.
Desserts
They have these simple yet delicious desserts which are perfect to end the meal.
Mango Mochi
Sago Gula
It was a good dining experience, the food has the right flavors which are not so over powering, you can enjoy every dish after another. There is no doubt why the company continues to grow because of great food and the management is so focus on every detail to ensure that every guest dine in the restaurant are more than satisfied. They have friendly staff also that are very attentive to every need of the guest.
